Cleared Recruitment are currently supporting a major Multinational Information Technology Company, who are looking for Baseline Windows System Administrator. The role is based in Melbourne's CBD.

This is an 8-month contract position with the potential for annual 12-month extensions thereafter.

Roles and responsibilities:

Assisting the customer in the daily operations of their environment, with tasks ranging from upgrading their VMware infrastructure, basic networking functions (basic CCNA level knowledge required here, there are no major network re-designs or any need for routing knowledge, just basic layer 2 switching and CLI, some DHCP and DNS).

Currently a minimal amount of storage operations (they have an existing NetApp engagement for storage and backup) and a considerable amount of Microsoft operations, involving System Centre Operations Manager (SCOM), System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM) and generic Windows operating system and application support.

Alongside this are occasional jobs that appear in the "help desk" inbox, which will contain the normal array of user requested operations (password resets, software requests, etc).

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Help Desk support in line with ITIL principles that aligns to Level 2-3 Help desk support.
  • Onsite support Services to the SIMOD Network team. This is including but not limited to:
  • Provision of on-site technical support to SIMOD Network helpdesk requests.
  • Resolution and completion of Service requests and identified incidents (on average 30 per week).
  • Troubleshooting system issues on physical and virtual servers and operating systems.
  • Resolving network and user issues.
  • Installing and configuring network switches.
  • Maintaining SIMOD Windows Standard Operating Environment (SOE).
  • Management and maintenance of Windows server and workstation updates through System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM) tool, including security, operating and application patch updates, and Software Centre management user groups access management.
  • It is expected that monthly patches/updates will be identified across the 30 plus software items that are managed on the SIMOD Network.
  • Management of the Microsoft Domain data, including Group Policy, and Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Continual improvement of SIMOD Windows SOE environment security measures. This will include daily review of vulnerabilities identified by the Commonwealth.
  • Maintenance of remote (network) operating system build functionality for Windows SOE installs (PXE build) Implementation of Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) and Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) Essential 8 Security measures
  • Attend and provide input into monthly meetings in support of business-as-usual activities, identifying priorities, resource requirements, capability, and capacity in support of the SIMOD Network.


Additional criteria

  • Installation of system software updates for the high-performance computing system and other Red hat Linux implementations.
  • Must have defence or federal government experience.
  • Windows support experience.
  • Understanding of Essential Eight.
  • Support and advise on hardware requirements, support assessment of hardware requirements and warranty, review the through life support of equipment.
  • Understanding of and consistent compliance to all Information Security Manual (ISM) policy and guidance.
  • Participate in and support audit program, including asset audits in structure periods as required.
  • Documentation of instructions and processes, including creation of new documentation in line with section requirements.
  • Delivery of Standard Operating Documentation, Security Overview documentation and System operating documentation of the discreet Stand-Alone Network known as SIMOD SN 445.
  • Manage tickets, including requests, incidents and problems that will range in complexity.

Other Info

  • Requirements: onsite 5 days per week, at the customer's CBD office.
