About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Administrator (Research Environments) to join our dynamic team working in a Federal Government Department. In this role, you will provide critical support to cutting-edge computational research networks and experimental systems. Working closely Group researchers, you will assist in the build, deployment, and documentation of specialized research ICT infrastructure, ensuring compliance with Defence security standards. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a high-performing team dedicated to innovative research and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer and operate data movement services between different domains, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Build, deploy, and document bespoke research ICT infrastructure for experimental labs and deployable systems.
Facilitate secure connectivity between experimental system components and core research networks.
Manage configuration of research system hardware and troubleshoot technical issues in collaboration with researchers.
Provide support for scientific computing infrastructure, including experimental systems (Linux and Windows) and bespoke research software.
Support DevOps platforms, modeling, and simulation environments used in research.
Ensure the secure handling and management of research data.
Support research trials with flexibility, including off-site and remote locations when necessary.
Skills & Experience:
Desirable:
Proven experience in using current knowledge to solve complex ICT problems and implement architectural solutions.
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
Exceptional troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
Strong understanding of ICT security principles, particularly in line with ASD ISM.
Knowledge of ITIL practices and principles.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to liaise with clients, management, and team members.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with Linux and/or Windows platforms (desktop/server) and associated network services (AD, DNS, DHCP).
Experience with network administration, including IP routing, switching, and network design principles.
Strong understanding of network security services, including firewalls and related device management.
Experience with data movement protocols (SMB, NFS, rsync).
Scripting/programming skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Java).
Familiarity with compute server management and best practices for hosting facilities.
Security Clearance Requirements:
Due to the sensitive nature of this role, candidates must be Australian Citizens and hold an active Australian Federal Government Security Clearance at NV2 level.
