Job Description

The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is seeking multiple Solution Architects to join their team. As a Solution Architect, you will provide technical leadership in the design, implementation, and management of systems and software aimed at solving business challenges. You will work across a broad range of highly complex projects and collaborate with stakeholders at various levels of the organisation. You will be responsible for ensuring that solution architectures meet the business requirements, while adhering to best practice standards and organisational goals.

This role will allow you to apply your subject matter expertise in ICT architecture, providing guidance and mentoring to teams, and influencing strategic decisions. You will also engage in very complex problem-solving, manage projects with high stakes, and contribute significantly to the success of Defence and national security initiatives.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of solutions, system architectures, and models to meet specific business needs.
  • Oversee and manage teams in the development and production of system specifications and solutions.
  • Demonstrate advanced research and analytical skills to support the design of solutions and assess their feasibility.
  • Maintain expertise in Defence systems to ensure solutions integrate seamlessly with operational needs.
  • Foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders, managing expectations and ensuring outcomes are met.
  • Mentor teams, aligning skills and allocating resources to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Manage risk, assess project factors for success, and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Guide and mentor less experienced staff, sharing expertise and knowledge across the team.
  • Demonstrate expertise in project planning, including scope, quality, time, and risk management.

Education/Certifications Required

  • At least a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • Qualifications in relevant technical disciplines such as architecture or software engineering.
  • Certifications in architectural frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) or similar models would be highly desirable.

Knowledge/Skills Required

  • At least 3 years' experience in a Solution Architect or similar role.
  • Proven leadership experience and ability to guide technical teams.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Deep understanding and practical application of architectural design patterns, standards, technologies, and frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud architectural best practices.
  • Strong understanding of Defence systems, security, and the operating environment.
