Senior Systems Administrator - NV2 Cleared | Canberra

Cleared Recruitment is proud to be working with a Federal Government Department within the Intelligence Community to source a highly skilled Senior Systems Administrator. This role involves the ongoing management, maintenance, and optimisation of critical infrastructure systems within a secure, highly regulated environment in Canberra.
You will play a key role in maintaining the security, performance, and availability of complex IT systems while mentoring junior staff and contributing to major infrastructure initiatives.
As this is a secure environment, you must hold an active NV2 security clearance.

About the Role

This position is responsible for leading systems administration functions, supporting both physical and virtual infrastructure. It requires a proactive and security-minded professional with broad technical capability, strong leadership, and advanced troubleshooting skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• System Administration - Oversee the installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of physical and virtual server infrastructure.
• Security Management - Apply security patches and conduct audits to maintain compliance with government cybersecurity protocols.
• System Monitoring - Ensure performance, reliability, and capacity through continuous system monitoring.
• Troubleshooting & Support - Provide senior-level support, identifying and resolving issues across infrastructure components.
• Automation & Scripting - Develop scripts using Bash, PowerShell, or Python to automate and streamline administrative tasks.
• Backup & Disaster Recovery - Maintain and regularly test backup and recovery plans to safeguard critical data.
• Collaboration & Mentoring - Partner with IT teams including networks and cybersecurity while mentoring junior team members.
• Documentation & Reporting - Maintain detailed documentation on configurations, system architecture, and performance metrics.
• Compliance - Ensure alignment with Australian Government policies, security frameworks, and risk standards.

  Our Ideal Candidate Has:

• Proven experience working within government or highly regulated environments
• Expertise in managing Windows desktop and server environments
• Familiarity with containerisation technologies like Docker or Kubernetes
• Knowledge of automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet
• Strong scripting skills in Bash, PowerShell, or Python
• Demonstrated ability to work to SFIA Level 5 or above
• Exceptional communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
