The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is seeking multiple experienced Cyber Analysts and Engineers to fill positions across the organization. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the national security of Australia while working in a dynamic and impactful role. Suitable candidates will be required to complete ASD's Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA).

About the Organisation:

The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is a statutory agency within the Defence portfolio, defending Australia against global threats and advancing national interests through foreign signals intelligence, cyber security, and offensive cyber operations as directed by the Australian Government.

Key Responsibilities:

Cyber Analysts:

  • Provide ICT security advice and assistance to government agencies, including policy creation, project advice, and research.
  • Conduct complex research and analysis of cyber threats and provide reports on threat modelling and intelligence.
  • Analyse cyber threat event data and fuse it with all-source intelligence to identify and track threat actors.
  • Use analytical tools and techniques to assess cyber threat activities.
  • Deliver complex briefs and intelligence reports related to national security issues.
  • Coordinate with senior leadership to ensure effective decision-making.

Cyber Security Engineers:

  • Lead the design, development, testing, and maintenance of signals intelligence systems.
  • Create innovative technical solutions to support the signals intelligence function.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of the signals intelligence function to guide collaborative analysis activities.
  • Design and implement solutions to address issues impacting the signals intelligence function.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Intelligence, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Cyber Analyst/Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Expertise in the application of the Essential 8 framework.
  • Extensive experience with network security technologies, including vendors such as Palo Alto, Cisco, Sourcefire, FireEye, Blue Coat, Gigamon, and Ixia.
  • Demonstrated experience in installing and configuring COTS network security devices, including Next Generation Firewalls (NGFW), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and Network Visibility appliances.

Technical Skills:

  • Analysts: Experience in Intrusion Detection and Analysis, Threat Intelligence, Assessment, and Threat Modelling, and Research.
  • Engineers: Skills in Systems Design, Information Security, and Systems Installation and Removal.

Essential Criteria:

  1. Intrusion Detection and Analysis: Proven experience in managing intrusion teams and making decisions on appropriate responses.
  2. Threat Intelligence and Threat Modelling: Ability to independently manage and undertake complex threat intelligence tasks.
  3. Research Leadership: Experience leading research strategies and mentoring teams of researchers.
  4. Systems Design: Extensive experience in designing complex systems and managing associated risks.
  5. Information Security: Expertise in advising on security strategies and conducting risk assessments.
  6. Systems Installation and Removal: Ability to lead installations or decommissioning projects, ensuring quality outcomes.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership capabilities and strong stakeholder management.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and teamwork in dynamic environments.

Additional Requirements:

  • Candidates must hold an active NV2 or TSPV security clearance.
  • Completion of ASD's Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) will be required.
