We are seeking an experienced Senior Electronics Technician ideally out of uniform who has exposure to naval communications and satcom/radar systems able to provide maintenance and upkeep for Australian Navy vessels.

Based at Fleet Base East - Garden Island, Potts Point, Sydney, you will be a key member of the technical maintenance team on a full-time contractual basis.

6 - 12 months contract with a competitive rate.

Role: Senior Electronic Technician

The Senior Technician will conduct planned and corrective maintenance, technical investigations, and support configuration change activities of maritime communication and combat systems. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform planned and corrective maintenance, incorporating modifications, and non-standard modifications, where authorised in accordance with the Maintenance Management System.
  • Support configuration management to selected mission systems.
  • Perform support activities for breakdown spares, repairable items, and support and test equipment.
  • Perform technical support in the conduct of engineering and maintenance services and activities for the customer.
  • Complete records to document and certify the maintenance activities.
  • Producing maintenance reports, meeting key performance indicators for technical compliance and contributing to system health indicators for production and program management.
  • Maintain a strong customer relationship across all working levels which includes actioning customer requests and deficiency reports
  • Provide supervision and mentoring for Technicians and Apprentices.
  • Undertake travel as required, both within Australia and internationally, to fulfil the requirements of this role.
  • Other duties as deemed relevant to program and operational requirements and within the technical competency of the position.
  • This position will operate within a matrix organisation and may be embedded within a project or program. Therefore, it is expected that if this position has a matrix reporting line through to a Function, the position incumbent will adhere to appropriate discipline-specific standards and processes.

Technical Competencies:

  • Ability to make adjustments or recommended enhancements to systems and processes to solve problems or improve the effectiveness of the work area.
  • Understanding and application of technical theories and concepts within the field of radio frequency and communication technologies.
  • A demonstrated understanding of and experience in fault finding and diagnostic skills.
  • A demonstrated understanding of and experience in electrical and data interface standards and protocols.
  • A demonstrated understanding of and experience in operating systems/server systems/network protocols.
  • Demonstrated understanding of maritime communications and or combat systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSwMS) Regulatory Framework.
  • Sound mechanical aptitude in relation to the systems and/or equipment being supported.
  • Knowledge of the Defence Technical Regulatory Framework.
  • Computer literacy including the use of configuration/data management systems, maintenance management systems, Windows operating systems, and the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
