Role Purpose:
As a Network Engineer, you will be a key player in the design, implementation, and support of our network infrastructure. This is an exciting opportunity to expand your expertise across a range of technologies in a fast-paced, growing team. You will ensure the stability, scalability, and security of our network environment while delivering high-quality solutions that meet both internal and client needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Design and Implementation: Design and implement network components, including equipment procurement, and support the development of secure network solutions for private and cloud infrastructure.
- Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Diagnose and resolve complex network issues, working across multiple levels of encapsulation and cryptographic solutions.
- Secure Communications: Support the implementation of remote and mobile secure communications.
- Secure Gateway Design: Assist in the design and build of secure gateways.
- Solution Definition: Collaborate with other network and integration staff to define secure solutions for all platform interfaces.
- Requirements and Impact Analysis: Analyse new requirements and issues, identifying their impact on architecture and proposing solutions.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor network performance, identify needs, and resolve issues as they arise, ensuring the delivery of exceptional service.
- Documentation: Create, revise, and maintain comprehensive documentation of the network environment and operational procedures.
- On-Call Support: Participate in an on-call roster and provide escalated support when necessary.
- Technology Research: Stay up to date with emerging technologies and continuously seek out opportunities for professional development.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the service desk, system administrators, delivery managers, and product developers to provide guidance on connectivity and infrastructure.
Technical Competencies:
- Network Engineering: Hands-on experience with LAN and WAN fault diagnosis and repair, including experience in gateway environments.
- Security and Risk Management: Understanding of Australian Government information security standards (ISM) and gateway requirements.
- Cisco and Firewall Network Architecture: Strong experience with Cisco networking, including implementing network architectures and troubleshooting VoIP and firewall technologies.
- Infrastructure Devices: Proficiency with infrastructure devices such as switches, routers, wireless access points, controllers, and firewalls.
- Cryptographic Knowledge: Understanding of cryptographic deployments and key material management.
- Wireless and Real-Time Media: Experience with wireless communications and real-time media streams (e.g., SIP).
- Troubleshooting: Ability to effectively diagnose and resolve network-related issues.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in technology (focus on network engineering) or equivalent industry experience.
- Certifications: Professional certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, JNCIP-ENT, JNCIE-ENT, Network+, or WCNA are desirable but not mandatory.
Desirable Skills:
- Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining attention to detail.
