Initial contract duration: to 31 December 2025
Extension term: Up to an additional 24 months.

About the Role
As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will play a key role in defending Australia's infrastructure. You'll be responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of cyber security monitoring and analysis toolsets, and you'll lead the development of cyber security architecture in collaboration with internal ICT teams. This is an opportunity to contribute to the security of critical national systems and have a direct impact on the country's democratic processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and optimize cyber security monitoring tools and analysis platforms
- Lead the design and build of secure cyber security architectures in coordination with internal teams
- Ensure the security of critical electoral systems against domestic and foreign threats
- Respond to and manage cyber security incidents effectively and efficiently
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Experience with Sentinel or a similar SIEM solution
- In-depth knowledge of the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISMG)
- Expertise in security technologies, including endpoint protection, firewalls, and IDS/IPS
- Extensive experience in Windows, Linux, networking, and system administration
- Experience working with security services in the cloud (Azure or AWS)
Desirable Skills
While not mandatory, the following skills are highly desirable:
- Experience with cyber security monitoring for or within other Federal government entities
- Extensive experience in cyber incident response
Other Requirements
- Character clearance, including a police check
- Negative Vetting Level 1
- Must demonstrate political neutrality
- Must be an Australian citizen
- Willingness to work shifts as required during critical periods.
